1. There are several methods for measuring thread density in fabrics, including using a one inch counting glass, a traversing thread counter microscope, fabric dissection, and optical methods using parallel or taper line gratings.
2. The traversing thread counter consists of a traveling microscope on a plate that can measure threads in a fabric sample placed on a transparent panel using a built-in gauge and stroke counter.
3. Other factors like crimp, crimp percentage, and crimp amplitude are additionally used to characterize yarns in fabrics.

Methods of measuring Thread Per Inch:
1. One inch counting glass.-a simple
microscope.
2. Traversing thread counter –a travelling
microscope fitted with a pointer to aid
counting
4. • The Traverse Thread Counter consists of traveling
microscope fitted on basic plate having a
translucent plastic panel illuminated from below.
The viewing arrangement consists of the
microscope fitted on a traveling carriage which
can be moved over two rods with the help of a
screw. The microscope has a 10 x eye piece, and
achromatic object glass.
The fabric to be tested is placed on the
translucent panel, and a built in swiveable gauge
having openings of different lengths is lowered
over it. The total number of threads in the fabric
in any one opening is counted by manually
operating a stroke counter fitted on the
apparatus .
