 Fair Use - refers to the copying of a copyrighted material, with the purpose
of using it for a review, commentary, critic, or parody, without
the need to ask permission from the copyright owner.
- is also applicable when you cite a few lines from a song of a
famous celebrity as an introduction to a book review.
- it keeps users from legal suit of copyright infringement.
 Parody - refers to a work which ridicules another in a funny, inoffensive
and non-derogatory manner.
 Example: taking a screenshot photo from a famous movie and turning it
into a meme.
 Intellectual Property - pertains to the output of a persons intellectual
pursuit, such as his literary and artistic
works, inventions, logos, symbols,
and signs, as well as names and images
used for commercial purpose or advertisments.
 Copyrights, patents, and trademarks also fall under intellectual property.
 Copyright
- A copyrighted material is protected by law and cannot be just used and
reproduced without permission. In the Philippines, a copyright for
intellectual works can be requested at the National Library. Copyrighted
materials may include printed materials, such as books, musical scores,
as well as maps. It may include artworks like paintings, sculptures,
images and drawings.
 Patent
- It pertains to an exclusive right granted to an invention. Just like a
copyright law a patent protects the owner from other people who
deliberately or unintentionally copy his invention.
 Trademark
- It refers to a specific design with a particular brand of goods or
services.

 Plagiarism - is a form of stealing because the person involved acknowledge
the original owner of the work and claimed the material his own.
- If another individual use it without proper citation, it would
send readers a wrong notion that this is an original work.
 Etiquette
- When we refers to someone who has etiquette, it means that the person
has proper decorum and behaves according to what society dictates to be
right.
 Netiquette
- It denotes the proper attitude that one should observe when
communicating online.
Here are some guidelines to remember as an Internet user with netiquette:
1. Observe politeness when responding or to sending messages.
2. When you receive a message, especially if it is from your superior at work or
a client, it would be polite to reply urgently.
3. Review first the intended message before sending it so that you can be sure
that it is the exact message that you want to convey.
4. As a sign of respect, do not send or spam or chain messages to your list of
contacts, whether they are your family members, friends or colleagues.
 Spam mail - is a form of comemrcial advertising which companies send
in bulk through e-mail to prospective customers.
 Chain mail - refers to an e-mail which requires the receiver to send the
same message to another person.
5. Ask permission first before sharing someones personal post, photo, and
video on social media, as this could violate the persons right to privacy.
6. As a sign of respect, personal photos or videos of private individuals should
not be tampered out of fun or parody, nor disseminated in public, as this can
be offensive.
 Digital Divide - refers to the economic, educational, and social inequalities
experience by those who cannot afford to have computer
and Internet access.

communication that is allowed to be distributed.
 Virtual Self
- pertains to ones representation in the virtual world, which exists online
and is only available once a person is connected to the Internet.

- or emoticons are smileys which represent an emoticon or idea.
DANGERS OF THE INTERNET
 Addiction
- refers to a condition in which a person seems to have lost control over
an action or behavior, which mental health practitioners deemed as self-
destructive.
 Vulnerability to Online Crimes
 Cyberbullying
- harm is done when the bully tells something derogratory about
someone and then posts and shares it using social media.
