1. Ivy League: The Ivy League is a collegiate athletic conference composed of sports teams from eight private institutions of higher education in the Northeastern United States. The conference name is also commonly used to refer to those eight schools as a group. The eight institutions are Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, Princeton University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Yale University. The term Ivy League also has connotations of academic excellence, selectivity in admissions, and social elitism.1865 Ezra Cornell quotation: "I would found an institution where any person can find instruction in any study."[1]Ithaca has 7 undergraduate colleges and 7 graduate divisions – each does its ownenrolmentsEverything taught at Ithaca, medicine and some engineering in NYC and Qatar -each college handles its own enrolments, etc.Research focus – 2009 spent $671m on science and engineering research and development
