The people of Israel gathered to hear Ezra read from the book of the law of Moses. As the people listened attentively, Ezra and the Levites helped the people understand what was being read. The people listened reverently and with awe for the Lord. When the people heard the words, they wept but were then comforted and told to celebrate with food and drink because of the joy of the Lord.
