THE CASE OF LIZZIE BORDEN
Was she really a murderer?
LIZZIE BORDEN
MEET THE BORDENS
Lizzie Borden was charged with
murdering her father and step
mother with an ax, but was
acquitted.
Lizzie Borden took an ax and
gave her mother 40 whacks. And
when she saw what she had done,
she gave her father 41.
This little rhyme is untrue,
because her mother was only
struck around 20 times, while her
dad was struck just 10.

Andrew Borden

Abby Borden
INVESTIGATION

Lizzie was the only one with good opportunity to commit the murders,
because she was the only one home at the time of her mothers death,
and someone would have had to hide out to have killed Andrew
No signs of forced entry and nothing stolen
Lizzie claimed to not be near her mother at her time of death, but also
said she heard no noise, which is impossible considering the wounds
The day before Lizzie had tried to buy poison at the drug store
Lizzie and her step mother didnt have a good relationship
She didnt seem scared when the police had came to the house
Lizzie was found burning a dress supposedly because it have paint on
it
TRIAL

The trial opened on June 5,1893, in New Bedford Courthouse
The skulls of Abby and Andrew were present; this caused Lizzie to faint
and become unconscious for several minutes
Bridget Sullivan testified that Lizzie was the only person she saw in the
home at the time her parents were murdered
No one was there to actually say the Lizzie did it, considering the victims
were dead
 Lizzie was found not guilty
EVIDENCE

 The ax
 The skulls
The dress that was burned could have been used
LIZZIES LIFE

She resided in Falls River
She stayed by herself
Went to church, but sat alone
Went on to lead a very lonely life afterwards
Died on June 1, 1927
MY OPINION

I believe that she should have been found guilty because who else could have
done that, I mean honestly. She was the only person in the house, and there
was no sign of anyone else being in there.
Ive always been a fan of the Lizzie Borden case, every time something comes
on tv about it Im always watching it intrigued. Most of the time they are
talking about how haunted the house is, and how Lizzie still wanders around
and you can sometimes even still hear her laughing.
