School Grounds Our establishing shot is of the school building which sets the scene for where our trailer is taking place. We believe that our target audience would be able to relate to the trailer as we are aiming our trailers at teenagers, who will generally be in education still.
Classrooms Some of our shots would be taking place in classrooms to show that the characters are students. This again will allow our target audience to relate to the characters and the trailers as they would have similar experiences. One of the classrooms we have decided to use is the attic classroom. This is because it is on the highest level and secluded from the other classrooms, creating a tense atmosphere from the very beginning. We are also going to make sure we shoot the small flight of stairs which goes into this classroom to emphasise the isolation of the characters.
Corridors A majority of the chase scenes in our trailer take place in the school corridors. It is easily depicted that we are in the corridors because of the mise-en-scene of the lockers. One of our scenes consists of the final girl character, Sam, running down the corridor with her hand-held camera on the floor. Due to the length of the corridor we are able to shoot a long shot of her running whilst presenting to the audience how she is alone and isolated in a vast corridor. This follows many codes and convention of horror thus making our trailer have an impact on the audience as any other horror movie trailer.
Gym The pivotal scene of our trailer is that of the séance which is carried out in the Gym. The darkness of the gym adds a grim effect and makes the scene more tense. It also implies supernatural dark forces due to the aged element to it. We decided to use the gym as the audience are bound to be familiar with this location and therefore making them relate to the trailer, as well as for practical reasons of being able to film in a wide space, ranging from a variety of angles. The middle of the gym was used in order to symbolise that the characters were right in the centre of terror. This was enhanced by the markings on the gym floor which made it all the more eerie and tense.
Stair case More of our chase scene are intended to be shot on the staircases in school. We decided to have the characters of Sam and Michelle running down the stairs, rather than up them, to symbolise their decent into darkness and hell, as well as their loss of innocence. The Victorian feel of the back staircases adds to the element of supernatural, ghostly forces as it implies the past which resides there, thus making it believable for the audience.
Toilets The period of disequilibrium begins in the scene set in the toilets. We felt the toilets was the perfect place for the promiscuous character of Ava to off to have a cigarette. The generally empty and quiet toilets imply that she is alone and cut off from help, creating an eerie atmosphere for this scene.
