The document discusses the concept of "Lounge Work" and how incorporating home-like furniture and elements into office spaces can make work more productive and efficient. It provides examples of how sofas, armchairs, and other seating solutions from Vitra are well-suited for relaxed individual work, meetings, and collaboration in modern offices and work environments. 2. LOUNGE - WORK
… IS EVERYWHERE
IN A MUSEUM, AT THE AIRPORT, AT HOME OR IN THE OFFICE …
3. LOUNGE - WORK
MEET AND RETREAT
Today it is generally acknowledged that work can be done more productively and efficiently
in relaxed, informal situations, and that a homely atmosphere is particularly well suited for
certain activities – meetings, brainstorming sessions, concentrated individual work, reading,
creative relaxation – where it can also give rise to new inspiration. This realization has led
to a shift in the design of offices, where homely elements and furniture are now consciously
incorporated to an ever greater extent. Sofas and armchairs are places of retreat in these
environments, enabling a brief moment of respite, informal communication, inner thought and
the completion of tasks in a focused manner. In the modern office, characterized by
different spatial situations and types of furniture, a zone for Lounge Work is a matter of
course.
Vitra is promoting Lounge Work with a range of products designed especially for
working in relaxed positions.
6. ALCOVE WORK
RONAN AND ERWAN BOUROULLEC, 2010
Alcove Work is a new sofa workstation for concentrated individual work.
The space is formed on the one hand by extra-high backrests and sides, and a fixed, leather-
covered writing shelf with integrated cable ducts on the other. The shelf forms a stable, non-
slip surface for working on a computer. At the same time, it forms the top of a practical box
with storage space for materials and office utensils. The firm seat and backrest upholstery of
Alcove Work enables users to sit in an upright, table-oriented position.
14. ALCOVE HIGHBACK SOFA
RONAN AND ERWAN BOUROULLEC, 2006
The Alcove Highback Sofa is the perfect retreat for concentrated work or a confidential
meeting in a small group. With its characteristic, extra-high backrests and sides, it shields
users from both visual and acoustic stimuli. It is ideally suited for use in the open space
office, where its special qualities form a room within a room. This effect is particularly
apparent when two Alcove Highback Sofas are placed directly opposite one another.

Sleek, geometrically pristine shells and bridge-like bases made of polished aluminium
dominate the formal features of the Suita sofa system. The Suita Club Sofa and the Suita
Club Armchair are specially designed for use in offices, lobbies and waiting areas. They
stand out through their firm, particularly durable padding that ensures a high level of comfort
without the need for additional cushions. There is also the option of adding a high headpiece
to the Suita Club Sofa, giving even stronger definition to the inner space of the sofa and
evoking a shielding effect.
