Madagascar has high levels of poverty, with 50% of the population living below the poverty line in 2004. The country has a very low GDP of $900 in 2010 and ranked 126th in the world, with debt of $2.265 billion in 2010 and ranked 137th globally. Madagascar saw negative real growth of -2% estimated for 2010. The UN and various NGOs like Oxfam and Wateraid are working to help address poverty in Madagascar as part of the Millennium Development Goal of eradicating poverty and hunger.
