Respected sir, I am hereby attaching the reference paper of my
proposed seminar topic. Please go through the paper and send your
valuable comments. If the paper is approved, please acknowledge the
same.
Topic : " The ALICE data acquisition system ( DAQ ) ".
ABSTRACT
ALICE (A Large Ion Collider Experiment) is one of seven detector
experiments at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. ALICE is optimized
to study heavy-ion (Pb-Pb nuclei) collisions at a centre of mass
energy of 2.76 TeV per nucleon pair.
Here we describe the design, the construction, the commissioning and
the operation of the Data Acquisition (DAQ) system of the ALICE
experiment in detail. The DAQ is the systems used respectively for the
acquisition of all physics data and for the overall control of the
experiment. It is the computing system that made of hundreds of PCs
and data storage units interconnected via two networks. The collection
of experimental data from the detectors is performed by several
hundreds of high-speed optical links. The ALICE data acquisition
system needs to balance its capacity to record the steady stream of
very large events resulting from central collisions, with an ability
to select and record rare cross-section processes. The core function
of the Data Acquisition (DAQ) system is to realize the data- fl ow from
the detector up to the data storage. The DAQ system also includes
software packages performing the data quality monitoring and the
system performance monitoring.
