This document describes a Comenius-eTwinning project called "The Incredible Life of Marcus Poncious Europeaus" that involved partnerships between schools in Spain, Italy, Sicily, Turkey, Greece, and Poland. The project aimed to create a biography of a fictional character who travels around Europe in Roman times, using contemporary media approaches. It outlined various activities carried out by students to get to know each other, learn European words, create Facebook pages for classical characters, raise awareness of social issues, and more. The impact was said to include developing European citizenship and cultural understanding while improving language skills and technological proficiency.
3. We have aimed to create the biography of a fictional
character who travels around Europe in Roman times
using the language of contemporary mass media.
4. The pillars which our project was based on:
To explore new methodological approaches to the study of
English and Latin, in constant interaction with new technology.
To approach to the world of contemporary mass media through
its language and shapes.
To become aware of the problems that concern Europe, such us
immigration, solidarity, pollution and so on.
To promote a sense of Europe as something that unites us.
6. Activity 1-Introductions
The first thing we had decided was to do a series of
activities that allow us to know each other. These
activities were created in both English and Latin.
9. Activity 6
The creation of different episodes of Marcus has
enabled us to establish a chronology and a common
frame of reference with a evident goal: the
improvement of Latin and English for our students.
11. Poll first year
Students evaluated the development of
our project in a survey. From the results
we teachers readjusted our projects to
improve and meet students expectations.
13. Activity 8
Learning a bit of European words
Students have tried to teach to other mates some
words of their own language, so they had to show
some words of their own language to the rest of
European mates pronounce some words into
different languages of Europe
15. Activity 10
Weather forecast
We think that weather forecast is one of the current
products of Mass media. In order to teach students
this type of language, we created different videos
with the weather in our regions.
Latin teachers have helped us to develop the
reports.
17. Activity 14
Ancient facebook
Students created the Facebook pages of classical
characters related to our countries like Caesar,
Poliphemus, Asterix, etc. To do it, they had to search
the necessary documentation and choose interesting
parts of his/her biography. Then, put in his biography
friends, events, comments, etc
20. Activity 19
Solidarity and Equality
The aim of this activity was to raise awareness of
injustices related to solidarity and equality. Every
student showed to others a problematic situation
that he/she detects in his/her country using
Scoop.it. We, teachers, have provided them a
common Scoop.it account.
Finally they posted it on Instagram with the
hashtag #solidarityTILMPE
24. Activity 20
Marcus Quiz show
We organised a very hard quiz show for students, in
which they had to solve difficult questions related to our
cities, regions or countries.
As for tools, basically we used Pinnacle and Youtube,
whilst students used Internet deeply to find answers.
27. Activity 21
Time Capsule: Bye, Marcus!
We wanted to know the activities that students
liked during our project. For it, we created a
online board on Pinterest.
30. IMPACT
Both the students and teachers have
developed the sense of European citizenship
They have met and found out about each
other's culture, historical sites and traditional
background
Teachers have developed their teaching skills
with the help of the computer and the new
technologies
31. The approach to the Roman civilization has been
constant: students have looked for Latin
references related to places where our school is.
32. Many activities in Latin can be successfully applied
anywhere in Europe where this language is taught,
and using as a complement for a natural learning,
apart from serving to promote the relationship
between European students. As Latin is not included
in the curriculum ,it has been an unprecendant
experinece for us to perform scenes in Latin in
Turkey.
33. More importantly , we researched many new web
2.0 tools, looking for the suitability for each
activity in every case integrating them with the
outdoor activities. This allowed us to train
students in new technologies while going into our
subjects in depth.
