Salman Rushdie is a British Indian novelist born in Bombay, India to a Muslim family. He was educated in Cambridge and worked as an actor and copywriter. Some of his notable works include "Grimus" and "The Satanic Verses", which was considered blasphemous by Muslims and provoked a fatwa against Rushdie, forcing him to live under protection. However, his masterpiece is considered to be "Midnight's Children", which tells the story of 1001 children born at midnight on August 15th, 1947 as India gained independence, including the main character Saleem Sinai who has special mental penetrating powers.
