Mass is the amount of matter an object contains and can be measured using a scale or balance. There are two common ways to measure mass - placing an object on one side of a scale and adding weights to the other side until balanced, or using a digital scale. Volume is the amount of space an object occupies, which can be calculated by multiplying an object's length, width, and height or measured using a graduated cylinder filled with water.
2. What is Mass?
Mass is the amount of matter an
object has.
Interesting, right?
3. There are
two ways to
measure
mass.
Place the object to be weigh on one side of the scale. Then add things with
known weight until the sides are balanced. Add all the weight on the side
without the one object. This is how much this object weighs.
4. Another way is to use a scale
Place the scale on a
hard, flat surface. Turn
it on then place the
object on the scale.
Then the scale should
show how much the
object weighs in
grams. Yay!
6. Way #1
Its easy! Just multiply the
length then width and the
height.
7. Way #2
How?
Fill the graduated cylinder with an
adequate amount of water. When placed
in the cylinder, the object must be fully
submerged in the water. Also, be careful
not to put in so much water that the
water level will rise past the graduated
cylinder's markings when the object is
submerged. Record the volume of the
water before submerging the object.
Make sure to read the meniscus when
calculating volume
