The Massachusetts Department of Transportation announced a challenge for physical installations that display real-time public transportation data, with a $500 prize for the best installation. A physical installation is a sign, sticker, or display that shows real-time transit arrival information in locations like storefronts, buildings, or existing video screens to make real-time transit data easily visible to users. Examples from other cities include a developer-built real-time bus tracker in Boston, real-time bus arrival signs in a Chicago bakery and on a college campus, and real-time train arrival information at baggage claim in Portland International Airport.
