Definition: The soft, gray or black, powdery substance left after something has burned.
Example: We cleaned the ashes out of the fireplace.

Definition: Toward or onto land from an area of water, or on land after coming from an
area of water.
Example: Julie jumped off the boat and swam ashore.

Definition: To surprise someone very much.
Example: It was astonishing to see the size of the crowds for the Pope.

Definition: To make someone or something responsible for something.
Example: You cant blame the government for all your troubles.

Definition: A rectangular block of hard material used for building walls and houses.
Example: All of the bricks were brought by the architects.

Definition: The way in which something, especially paint, is put on to a surface with a
brush.

Definition: Cash machine.

Definition: The business or activity of providing food and drink at events, for
organizations, etc.
Example: I wanted to work in catering, and until I was 21 I worked as a chef in hotels and
bars.

Definition: A type of light feathery cloud that is seen high in the sky.
Example: She told me that she have been seeing the beautiful cirrus in the sky.

Definition: To reduce or stop.
Example: He was advised to cut back on sugary sodas.

Definition: A sudden, painful tightening of a muscle.
Example: My cramp was as painful as your headache.

Definition: To carry away.
Example: Lucia drags off all of the trash and she came back to the house.

Definition: To go get something or someone and bring the thing or person back.
Example: Shes been teaching the dog to fetch.

Definition: A stream of water that is forced up into the air through a small hole, esp. for
decorative effect, or the structure from which this flows.
Example: I havent seen a fountain like that one.

Definition: To do something as promised or intended, or to satisfy your hopes or
expectations.
Example: She said the president had failed to fulfill his campaign promises.

Definition: The pattern of chemicals inside the genes (= cells which are passed from
parent to child) which controls the characteristics and qualities of a living thing.
Example: Scientifics discovered what has the genetic code inside and what could be the
possible diseases for human beings.

Example: The forest fire gave off thick black smoke.

Definition: To receive money, property, or possessions from someone after the person has
died.
Example: Who will inherit the house when he dies?

Definition: A person who answers questions in an interview to see whether they are
suitable for a job or course.
Example: The right questions will enable you to discover whether the interviewee has all
the necessary qualities for the job.
