Residual Life Assessment – RLA Studies A number of compnents in Chemical Plants & Petrochemical Industries are either exposed to a high temperature or to cyclic pressure and thermal loading, especially when starting up and shutting down. Both of these influencing factors limit the service life. The assessment of the residual life of components subjected to stress in operation is important for the safety of the plants. 11. In – Situ / Onsite Metallography In-Situ / Onsite Metallography Technique is a basically a Non Destructive Testing (NDT). MCG uses this technique to assess the Residual Life (RLA) of the Components exposed to high temperature applications especially in the Chemical Plants, Petrochemical Industries etc. This technique involves the spot preparation using Mechanical Grinding, Electrolytic Polishing, Electrolytic Etching. Microscopy is carried out by using portable Microscope.
