E-911 emergency cell phone calls have evolved through phases to more accurately locate callers. Phase I provided the phone number and general location while Phase II locates callers within 50 meters 67% of the time and 150 meters 95% of the time. By the end of Phase II, 100% of new cell phones and 95% of all cell phones had location capabilities to help emergency responders. Automatic crash notification systems aim to save lives by integrating computer and wireless technologies to pinpoint callers needing emergency assistance.
