This document contains 5 questions from an Engineering Mechanics assignment. The questions cover concepts like impulse, momentum, work, power, and their related equations. They involve calculating velocities, distances, times, forces, speeds, and energy losses in scenarios like a gun recoiling after firing a bullet, a batsman hitting a ball, an object moving on an inclined surface, and a bullet impacting a suspended body. Students are asked to define key terms, write relevant equations, and apply concepts to solve physics problems involving impulse, momentum, work, power, and energy.

Assignment No. : 10 (Unit-5) Due Date of Submission:
Q-1: (a) Define the following terms: impulse, momentum, work and power.
(b) Write the impulse-momentum equation and mention its applications.
Q-2: A bullet of mass 20 gram is fired horizontally with a velocity of 30 m/s from a gun of mass 10 kg. Find the
velocity with which gun will recoil, distance and time taken in which gun comes to rest. If the resistance to gun
barrel is 2 N.
Q-3: A batsman hit a 0.25 kg ball which is coming horizontally with a velocity 20 m/s. After hitting ball moves
with 50 m/s makes an angle of 30o with horizontal. If impact is only for 0.02 sec. Calculate average force
exerted on the ball by bat.
Q-4: A block of 980 N rest on inclined surface. Inclined surface makes an angle 30o with horizontal. If block
initial velocity is 2 m/sec after 5 sec. What if it speed, if coefficient of friction for surface is 0.25.
Q-5: A bullet of 30 gram is fired horizontally in to a body of 10 kg which is suspended by a string of 1 m
length. Due to impact of bullet string swing by 30o. Find out the velocity of bullet and loss of kinetic energy of
the system.
