discipline to remain still in body and
mind.

Regular meditation practice has a powerful
impact on the mind and body, rewiring the
brain and bringing us all kinds of benefits
like:
 Contentment and well-being
 Resilience and focus
 Better mental and physical health, and
greater empathy and compassion.
HOW DOES MEDITATION HELP BRAIN?
 Meditation improves a wide range of
willpower skills, including attention,
focus, stress management, impulse
control and self-awareness.
 It changes both the function and
structure of the brain to support self-
control.
 For example, regular meditators have
more grey matter in the prefrontal
cortex.

PURPOSE OF MEDITATION
 While meditation is often used for religious purposes,
many people practice it independently of any religious
or spiritual beliefs or practices.

technique.
 Meditation practiced in cultures all over the world to
create a sense of calm and inner harmony.
 Meditation is less about faith and more about altering
consciousness, finding awareness, and achieving peace.

 change attitude towards life
 provide peace of mind and happiness
 achieve a better understanding of oneself
as well as others
 improve concentration levels, memory,
creativity and
 feel rejuvenated.

Healthcare providers include meditation as part of
the treatment for many conditions.
The benefits of meditation include:
 Lower blood pressure
 Decreased pain
 Better immune system function
 Better mood and brain function
SIDE EFFECTS OF MEDITATION
 It may prompt negative thinking.
 It might not leave feeling so optimistic.
 Sensory perception might change.
 Motivation may go right out the window.
 Might re-live negative memories and emotions.
 Might experience some physical side effects.
 It might damage sense of self.
