Peru is located on the western coast of South America and has around 30 million inhabitants who primarily speak Spanish. The country has three main geographic regions - the coast, highlands, and jungle. The coast is home to the capital city of Lima and sites like the Nasca Lines. The highlands contain mountains, lakes, and the descendants of the Incas as well as volcanoes. The jungle region includes the Amazon River, trees, and diverse animal life. Famous attractions include Machu Picchu, Chan Chan, and Sacsayhuaman as well as pre-Inca treasures and parks like Paracas. Peru offers a unique culture and cuisine, most notably pisco sour.
