Discussion about the project subject:


We discussed what will be our aim in this semester; our discussion




was about three main points:




  1.   To complete and improve our first bending device by solving




       the problems we faced in our tests which we didnt have




       enough time to fix in the first term.
2. To try to fix and calibrate the bending machine we have in the




     lab.




  3. To try new ideas or projects.




After taking votes we realized that the best we can do is to improve




our first design by solving the problems shown below and to see if




we can fix the machine in the lab.
Problems in the first design:




  - Unstable supports.




  -   Nothing prevents the beam from falling during bending




      experiments.




  - The wooden plate we put the load on was unstable too.
- It was difficult to move the nuts in the T-slot due to high




  friction and improper dimensions.




- Weight blocks we made were not sufficiently precise.
Proposed Solutions:




  - Redesigning the unstable parts to make it stable enough.




  - Designing a beam holder which can prevent it from falling




     during tests.




  - Using a digital scale to measure weights.
New idea:




  - To make a computerized micrometer that can freely move




    beneath the beam/rod using mechanical device to measure




    deflection in each point.
We agreed to visit the lab tomorrow to see either if we have enough




experience to calibrate the bending machine there or if we cannot do




this yet.
