Why are mentors needed at San Jacinto College? For every 100 AfricanAmerican males who start school here, only 8 of them finish. Our main goal is to fix that statistic.
Qualities of a MentorSincere desire to be personally involved with another person to help him achieve personal and career goals.Ability to communicate with young men openly and nonjudgmentally.Strong listening skills.
Qualities of a MentorAbility to establish a relationship based on equal responsibility and respect.Interest in needs and concerns of persons with internal and external barriers to steady employment.Practical problem-solving skills and ability to suggest options and alternatives.
What will I do as a Mentor?
What will I do as a Mentor?Mentors will serve as resources, assisting students with academic and personal development, while offering support and motivation. In a sense, the mentor serves as a fan for his or her mentee, cheering that student on towards the goal of graduation from San Jac.
