45th Anniversary Special Drama. Originally set to be 60 episodes long, MBC decided to extend it to 81 due to its
popularity.
It portrays the life of Jumong Taewang, (founder of the kingdom of Goguryeo). Few details have been found in the
actual historical records on Jumong, so many artistic details have been thought up. The fantastic elements surrounding
the original legend of Jumong have been replaced with events more grounded in reality, such as that concerning his
birth. It is also considered a major part of the "Korean wave" ("Hallyu"), with viewer ratings in Iran reaching more
than 80 percent.[1]
