This document discusses different techniques for teaching vocabulary, including pictures, flashcards, photos, charts, and diagrams. It explains that these visual tools help students learn vocabulary by associating words with images, and aid with memory, recognition, and understanding. These techniques are important because they make vocabulary learning more engaging and meaningful for students rather than through repetition alone.
2. WHAT IS A PICTURE?
This is a great tool for teachers to make and
print teaching resources with pictures for
classroom materials for kids.
Teaching ideas with pictures can include
memory games, storyboards and pictures for
discussions.
This helps us in vocabulary, speaking,
memory, recognition, etc.
4. What are flashcards?
A flashcard is a set of cards
bearing information, as words or numbers, on
either or both sides, used in classroom drills
or in private study. One writes a question on a
card and an answer overleaf. Flashcards can
bear vocabulary, historical dates, formulas or
any subject matter that can be learned via a
question and answer format. Flashcards are
widely used as a learning drill to
aid memorization by way of spaced repetition.
5. What is a Photo?
It is an important tool that the teacher can
use in class. (Photography) an image of an
object, person, scene, etc, in the form of a
print or slide that the students can see and
work with it.
7. What is a chart?
This is a sheet presenting
information in the form of
graphs or tables.
9. What is a diagram?
A plan, sketch, drawing, or outline
designed to demonstrate or
explain how something works or
to clarify the relationship between
the parts of a whole.
11. Why is vocabulary so important?
Vocabulary, much more than grammar, is the key
students understanding what they hear and read
in school; and to communicating successfully
with other people. For this reason it is very
important for they to quickly build up a large
store of words. Research studies have shown
the strong links between having an extensive
vocabulary and achieving school success.
12. These techniques are so important
because they help teachers to facilitate the
teaching of vocabulary and repeating is not
the best option rather helps things related
to the words or images we want to be
transformed into meaningful knowledge.
