- 4. 2 Increasing quality, lowering scrap After an extensive search and evaluation process, a specialist manufacturer of highly engineered, close tolerance components and assemblies commissioned a Hommel RoundScan system. This provides an in-house capability for measuring roundness values on a variety of high volume precision parts. The enhanced capability has resulted in an increase in product quality, reduced process scrap and a reduction in customer rejects. Increasing product premium A leading manufacturer of sporting rifle ammunition purchased a Hommel-Etamic Opticline non-contact measurement system to quantify the variations within its component manufacturing process, replacing a manual method. This development enables our client to sort the components by their dimensional attributes and to offer both a standard grade product as well as a highly accurate, premium grade product that achieves a 20% premium on resale price. Among the benefits of this application are significant reductions in measuring process time, saving around 500 operator hours per year along with savings in component scrap and energy. Delivering consistency A global manufacturer of automotive fuel systems is using a Hommel Etamic air gauging system to measure performance critical features in its range of diesel fuel injectors. This system offers the client repeatability and a level of accuracy, typically +/- 0.00025mm, that ensures the high level of consistency in the performance of the finished product that is demanded by its OEM customers.
