Initially Mike was involved as lead academic in the design and development of the online Graduate Diploma of Psychology (GDP). Subsequent to the launch of this course, Mike has been the academic course co-ordinator for the GDP. In regards to course design and development, Mike demonstrated an exceptional understanding of leading edge online course design principles and also displayed strong leadership skills in supervising the course development team. Mikes key achievements in this role were to: within the specified development budget, meet the high quality standards required for the course to achieve the approval of Monash Academic Board and external accreditation from the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council; and develop of a carousel unit delivery model that provides for both a flexible student experience and a highly efficient unit delivery model that maximises per unit enrolments. The resulting course has proven to be very popular with students, with over 1,000 student enrolments in just 18 months. In his role as course co-ordinator, Mike has overseen the hiring, training and performance of a substantial number of academic instructional staff. Mikes key achievements in his role as course co-ordinator include: strong student satisfaction, academic progression and retention outcomes for the GDP; and the successful rapid scale-up of the course delivery model to cope with the substantially higher than anticipated levels of student demand for the course. Due to Mikes exceptional performance in regards to the GDP, Mike was subsequently engaged by Monash Online to act as an internal academic design and development consultant for the next two courses that Monash Online launched. In both cases Mike was able to work very effectively with the course design teams to ensure that the courses were well structured and pedagogically sound and that a highly student centric and efficient carousel unit delivery model was adopted. Based on my experience in dealing with Mike, I would highly recommend him as both a skilled online educator and an enthusiastic team player who is able to effectively motivate and lead diverse academic/technical staff teams.
