The Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble will perform "Mirrors" from October 27-28 and November 3-4, celebrating their 10th anniversary. Based on the poetry of Rumi, the performance will use dance, theater, poetry and video to reflect on themes of self-destruction, rebirth, relationships and self-discovery in modern society. Inspired by Rumi's exploration of identity and purpose, Executive Director Ellyzabeth Adler hopes the visual presentation will demonstrate the complex human condition. In addition to pieces set to Rumi's poetry, the performance will include "Unraveling Bill" and "Pathways." Tickets are $10 and available on the ensemble's website.

Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble Brings Rumis Work to Life in Mirrors
Chicago Celebrating its 10th year anniversary, Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble (CDE) will feature a
performance that promises destruction, death, rebirth and self-reflection in its fall production of Mirrors. The
show will run from October 27-28 and November 3-4 at 7:30pm at Hamlin Park Studio Theatre.
Based on the work of the poet Jelaluddin Rumi, Mirrors will feature a fusion of dance, theatre, poetry and
video. The performance will reflect on the self-destruction of modern society, its rebirth, connectivity through
relationships and self-discovery.
Rumis work often asks questions like who am I, what am I living for, and what is my purpose in life? said
Ellyzabeth Adler, Executive Director of CDE. I think this show will provide a visual element to demonstrate
the frailty and complexities of the human condition.
Some of Rumis poetry that will be featured in the performance will include Only Breath, Elephant In The Dark
and Blocked Road. Adlers inspiration for the show came about a year ago when she started becoming familiar
with Rumis work.
Rumi is one of the best-selling poets of all time and I wanted to get a better understanding of why that is, she
said. As I delved into his work, I found that there is something timeless about his poetry and I think the
message can very much be applied to modern times.
The show will also feature additional performance pieces, including Unraveling Bill, which was first performed
by the CDE in 2006. Unraveling Bill tells the story of the suicide of an Iraqi War soldier through the eyes of his
sister and the emotional affect it takes on his family. The other performance, Pathways, reflects the paths we
walk in life with our partner.
Tickets can be purchased for $10 on CDEs website. For more information, visit
