Amancio ortega gaonaNafeesa NaeemAmancio Ortega started his career in textiles working various jobs and opened his first factory at age 27. In 1975, he launched the fashion brand Zara, which became hugely successful with its strategy of quickly moving designs from the runway to stores. This led Ortega to found Inditex, the parent company of Zara and other brands, which he built into the largest fashion retailer in the world. Ortega's emphasis on keeping production local and flexible allowed Zara to rapidly adapt to trends while avoiding high costs. As of 2005, Inditex generated $8.7 billion in annual sales with over 3,000 Zara stores globally, making Ortega the richest man in Spain.
Vihreää energiaa tankkiin:Nils-Olof NylundVTT Technical Research Centre of Finland LtdUPM, VTT ja VV-Auto Group aloittavat kotimaisen uusiutuvan dieselin ensimmäiset koeajot liikenteessä.

Kari Herlevi: The circular economy and WCEF2018 in JapanSitra / Ekologinen kestävyysThe circular economy aims to decouple economic activity from the consumption of finite resources by designing waste out of systems and keeping products and materials in use. Globally, demand for raw materials is increasing substantially while much of what is produced is wasted. Many countries and regions are now pioneering circular economy approaches and business models that focus on renewable energy, recycling, product life extension, and product-as-a-service models. Finland has developed a unique roadmap to become a global leader in the circular economy with the potential to create over 75,000 new jobs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 13-66% across sectors.

20180608 sitra aamuharppaus annu nieminen v2Sitra / Ekologinen kestävyysThe document discusses the need for new metrics to measure companies' net impacts and value creation. It argues that current measures are outdated and better at measuring performance than impacts. A new quantification model is proposed to assess both the positive and negative economic, social and environmental impacts of companies. This would provide a more holistic view of companies' overall footprint and shape. It would focus only on the most significant impacts and those downstream from products and services. The goal is to incentivize businesses to build their models around solutions that deliver net positive impacts.
