Nokia was once the dominant player in the mobile phone market, holding around 80% market share for smartphones in 2007. However, it failed to transition successfully to the smartphone era, losing ground to Apple and Android-based phones. There were several factors that contributed to Nokia's decline, including its weak position in the technological ecosystem compared to competitors. Nokia struggled to gain traction in the important US market. Additionally, its smartphone platforms, Symbian and later MeeGo, were less competitive than iOS and Android.
