By 2020 there will be over 50 billion mobile devices which will exceed the # of people on earth.
But to put it in context of the US there will be more then 150 million smartphones in the hands of us citzens.
This is big and merchants need to tap into this new way of communication.
As you can see from all other communication devices smartphones are by far has the largest attention to consumers. As a society we are at a cross roads on how we get our information and there is an overwhelming demand for small compact gateways of information.

The evolution of the mobile phone
By far the smartphone has been adopted quicker then any other innovation in the last 100+ years less then 10 years it has taken for the smartphone to be adopted compared to the automobile that took over 20 years to gain 50% adoption.
Plain and simple we are moving at the speed of light.
So to sum up the Mobile industry is that we are at a tipping point of a revolution of mobile connectivity and merchants today have a huge opportunity to take advantage of these new devices. The problem that I see is that because they are still catching up from the social media paradigm shift they are not geared for mobile. They are in the planning stages and looking at trusted vendors to lead them to the best solution that fits there needs.
This is a large opportunity for us as a group to tackle and we have a chance to take a large portion of. I would consider Mobile payments in the toddler stage of adoption.
