Sirikit was born on August 12, 1932 in Bangkok, Thailand. She is the eldest daughter and third child of Prince Nakkhatra Mangkala Kitiyakara and Mom Luang Bua Sanidvongs. Sirikit spent her first year being raised by her maternal grandparents while her father worked in the United States. She lived with her family in Deves Palace in Bangkok after her parents returned to Thailand when she was one year old. As a child, Sirikit often visited her paternal grandmother and traveled with Princess Absornsaman Devakula following a royal tour.
