Mount Nebo is an elevated ridge in western Jordan that provides views of the northern shore of the Dead Sea, the Jordan River valley, and Jericho. It was from Mount Nebo that Moses glimpsed the Promised Land before his death. Archaeological remains on Mount Nebo include mosaic floors and structures from Byzantine monasteries dating from the 4th to 9th centuries, indicating the presence of monastic communities. The summit also contains a modern monument symbolizing Moses and the bronze serpent.
