The Los Angeles GRYD program uses a comprehensive strategy to reduce gang violence. This includes primary prevention such as education campaigns, secondary prevention like family case management, intervention including crisis response and violence interruption, and suppression activities with law enforcement. The program focuses on high gang violence areas across Los Angeles. The current study examines how self-differentiation and countervailing behavioral norms can weaken gang identity and reduce crime. Interviews were conducted with 209 gang-involved youth in the program to measure these factors. Preliminary results show that anti-social norms and gang identity are correlated with higher crime and violence.
