MTR Corporation mandated the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) on large infrastructure projects to reduce risks and costs. For the Shatin-Central Link project, MTR required contractors to review design documents and create digital models within three months of being awarded contracts to identify any issues. This approach aimed to guarantee that no surprises remained in the design and ensure problems were addressed in a timely manner. The results of enforcing BIM deliverable deadlines on this $65 billion project will provide evidence of cost certainty to MTR and potentially reassure the UK Government, which is also mandating BIM on public projects.
