1950’s Rock-n-Roll emerged in the mid-50s as the teen music of choice. In the mid-1950s Elvis Presley became the leading figure of the newly popular sound of rock and roll with a series of network television appearances and chart-topping records.Doo Wop was another popular genre at the time. Jazz stars in the 1950s who came into prominence in their genres called Bebop, Hard bop, Cool jazz and the Blues.

……… Bill Hayley and the comets-Rock Around the Clock(1955): Became the first rock and roll song to top Billboard magazine’s main sales and airplay charts, and opened the door worldwide for this new wave of popular culture. Elvis Presley-All Shook Up(1957): Presley's single topped the U.S. Pop chart on April 13, 1957, staying there for eight weeks. It also topped the R&B chart for four weeks, becoming Presley's second single to do so, and peaked at #3 on the country chart. Danny & the Juniors-Rock and Roll is Here To Stay(1958): Written by Dave White and produced by John Madara. appeared in the hugely successful motion picture "Grease." ��

1960’s In the 1960’s the “British Invasion” of American music happened. This refers to the numerous British groups, admirers and emulators of American rock and roll, who broke into the U.S. market during the early 1960s.�� The invasion was spearheaded by the Beatles. Rock music took a step back from its drug-fueled experiments of just year before, and turned to less-experimental sounds, while the topics became angrier .

……… John Lennon-Give Peace A Chance(1969): The song became the anthem of the anti-war movement, and was sung by half a million demonstrators in Washington, D.C. at the Vietnam Moratorium Day, on 15 October 1969. Elvis Presley-It's Now Or Never(1960): The melody of the song is borrowed from the Italian standard, "'O Sole Mio”, but the inspiration for it came from the song, "There's No Tomorrow", recorded by U.S. singer, Tony Martin, in 1949. Brenda Lee-I'm Sorry(1960): It peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in July 1960. Brenda Lee recorded the song early in 1960 but her label, Decca Records, held it from release for several months out of concern that a 15-year-old girl was not mature enough to sing about unrequited love.

1970’s The 1970s marked a decade of accelerated improvements in stereo recording. The decade opened with big hits by the Carpenters that featured advanced layering of vocals. B y the 1970's, the term "rock & roll" had become nearly meaningless. This decade saw the break-up of the Beatles and the death of Elvis Presley, robbing rock of two major influences.

……… Diana Ross-Touch Me In The Morning(1973): released in May 1973. The single took off in April, slowly building through the summer until it peaked at number one in August. In all, it spent 21 weeks on the chart, longer than anything Diana had ever recorded, either by herself or with the Supremes. Rod Stewart-Tonight's The Night(1976): released as a single in the fall of 1976, and immediately ran into controversy. Many programmers objected to phrases in the song, which described a girl losing her virginity. Some tried to tape the tune and hack out offensive lines like "Angel, spread your wings and let me come inside." Others just banned the record completely. Even in Europe, it received spotty air play. Bee Gees-Stayin' Alive(1978): wound up opening Saturday Night Fever, as John Travolta struts along a city sidewalk. broke in mid-December 1977, spending four weeks at number one and It was on the charts for more than six months, and won a Grammy for Best Arrangement for Voices.

1980’s MTV, or Music Television, may have been the single most influential entity in music industry during the 1980s . Premiering in 1981, MTV gave bands and artists greater exposure for their music in a greater and more widely popular medium. The first video ever played on MTV was aptly titled “Video Killed the Radio Star” by the Buggles.

……… Blondie-The Tide is High(1981): written by John Holt and originally performed by The Paragons with John Holt as lead singer. The song went mainly unnoticed in the rest of the world until it was rediscovered in 1980 when it became a US/UK no.1 hit for the band Blondie. Foreigner-I Want To Know What Love Is(1984): The song hit #1 in both the UK and the U.S. and is the band's most successful single. It remains one of the band's best known songs and most enduring radio hits Beach Boys-Kokomo(1988): The single was released to coincide with the release of the Tom Cruise movie Cocktail , and its subsequent soundtrack.

1990’s The 1990s were a decade of many diverse scenes in music, however they are perhaps best known for grunge, teen pop, Eurodance and electronic dance music, and for being the decade that hip hop and alternative rock became mainstream.

……… Nirvana -Smells Like Teen Spirit(1991): opening track and lead single from the band's second album Britney Spears - Baby One More Time(1999): worldwide commercial success and remains Spears' most successful single Radiohead –Creep(1993): one of Radiohead's biggest hits, and has been used in various media as well as having been covered by a number of musical artists.

2000 pop music, hip hop music, contemporary R&B, new wave and alternative rock dominated. Teen Pop continued to be a extremely popular genre in the early 2000s with success of teenaged pop-singers Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson, and Mandy Moore

……… Avril Lavigne-Complicated (2002): number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and number three in the United Kingdom. Panic at the disco!-I Write Sins Not Tragedies(2006): reached #7 on the United States Billboard Hot 100. This is the band's only top 40 hit in America. Kelly Clarkson-Since U Been Gone (2005): second US digital download to sell over one million copies. It reached number two on the US Billboard Hot 100
