The document outlines Christopher Morris Mills' idea for a short horror film called "Killer". It will tell the story of a home invasion where two escaped mental patients wearing masks break into a teenage girl's suburban home. Mills drew inspiration from films like The Strangers and The Purge that use the home invasion sub-genre. The teenage girl victim will be dressed in typical modern teenage clothing to make her seem innocent. The two killers will wear masks to dehumanize them and make them seem threatening, with one killer dressed in a white nightgown to add misleading innocence. Lighting techniques like underlighting will be used to create a dark, gloomy atmosphere.

My final idea
1. MY FINAL IDEA
KILLER
a film by Christopher Morris Mills
2. Inspirations from other films
I drew inspiration from Horror films that I have previously seen, and that I thought
would be easy to recreate in my own style. Home invasion is one of my favourite sub-genres
of horror so I made the decision to use that for my film opening. Some of the
film that I drew direct inspiration from are The Strangers and The Purge.
3. Costumes
• The victim
I am using a teenage girl as my victim character as victim so her costume will
reflect the generic clothing of an average teenage girl, of our generation. This
will make her seem innocent and relatable to my audience, which would be
mainly constructed of people between the ages of 15-25
4. Costumes
• The two murderers
For my two killers I choice to use similar costumes to the ones used in the film, The
Purge. I wanted to use masks as the main focus of their costumes, as this dehumanises
the characters and their hidden identities makes them seem dangerous and
threatening to the audience. For the female killer I also choice to have her hair slightly
messy to represent her insanity and I have decided to put her in a white night gown to
add a sense of misleading innocence.
5. lighting
Lighting plays an important part in creating the
atmosphere in a film. The amount of light and the
direction of the light source can give meaning to
the viewer of the film. For example, lighting is used
to indicate the time of the day.
One of the main lighting styles I will use is called
under lighting and it can be used to disfigure the
face. Horror films make use of this technique.
Horror uses dark gloomy and shadowy lighting to
create tone
6. plot
a young girl named Georgina is home alone in
the early evening of a seemingly normal day.
She declines an invitation to go out with her
friends, so that she can stay in and study. A news
reporter of the TV reads a story about two
escaped mental patients from a local asylum.
She hears a strange noose and find her phone
has been tampered with until finally she sees
the reflections of two masked intruders standing
behind her, both wielding knives.
7. setting
My setting was an easy choice as in order for my
film to be a home invasion horror it would have
to take place within one of the characters
homes. I have decided to use a modern,
suburban house to create a false idea of
security, that is easily relatable to may members
of my audience
