My Summer at:  Luigis Fifth Grade Standards 5.2.6  5.2.7  5.2.8  5.5.1 By: Heather Jo Reynolds
I worked at a little concession stand known as  Luigis for the summer. It is located inside the amusement park  Indiana Beach  in my home town of Monticello.   I had worked there a couple summers ago and the owner was thrilled that I was coming back. She decided that she would put me in charge of managing the place while she was at home with her two young sons.
While working there I realized some things had changed since the last time I had worked at Luigis. There was new food that I did not know how to prepare I was going to have to train new employees Because there were new owners of the Indiana  Beach, everything brought in to the park had to be  documented differently as well as anything sold from  our stand
It was pretty stressful because I had to train new people and pass on exact information to them on account that  -There are a lot of different processes that you have to go through with cooking food that are deemed by the health department.  -Much of what we do is done a certain way because it is the easiest and/or fastest. - If you do not do something done to procedure then you could get hurt with the got grill or CO2 pressure.  But in the same breath I needed to follow the direction of those who had been there before me because I could still learn from them.
The Maze Game In this activity I will be giving you a partner. Together you will need to write specific directions to a certain place that I will assign to each group.  One of you will be the direction giver and the other the direction doer.  -The doer will be blindfolded and will completely rely  on the giver to make sure that they do NOT get hurt! - Stand by me when you are ready to start your  procedure.  The goal is NOT to get done first, but to achieve the procedure to the best of your abilities.
I had to use that new sense of following directions as I learnt how to make things like.  Lemon shake-ups Meatball Sandwiches The Luigi
Lemon Shake-Ups 1   Half a lemon   1 Tablespoon of sugar    Take 2 cups of water 2  3 halves of a lemons 1 Teaspoon of sugar Take 1 cup of water 3  2 halves of a lemon 村 of a cup of sugar   2 cups of water  For each recipe you will need to record how each different recipe turned out and compared to each other. With your lemon halves you  will need to use the squeezer.
The Beach had statistics for each day of the supposed amount of people that would be there.  I would have to take this and apply it to how much food was needed to be cooked. However you could not always rely solely on what the beach gave because they did not take into consideration of the weather. You would also have to look at the demographic of people as they came into the park.  For example, if it looked like there were more students than families you would need to put on more hot dogs.  Or if it was a super hot day, the drinks were plenty in stock along with the cups, lids, strawsect.
When can you think of a time when you have had to change your coarse of action biased on the situation before you?  Why did you feel that you could not do it the way you had originally planned?  What was the change in action? Did you feel it worked out better?
Standards Used Communication Skills 5.2.6 Write instructions that others can follow in carrying out a procedure. 5.2.7 Read and follow step-by-step instructions when learning new procedures. Critical Response Skills 5.2.8 Recognize when and describe that comparisons might not be accurate because some of the conditions are not kept the same. Numbers 5.5.1  Make precise and varied measurements and specify the appropriate units
