This proposal is for a game app that aims to improve individual and community health. The game would have three stages teaching health literacy and how to search the internet for health information. It would generate data through player interactions and surveys to better understand their health and internet usage. The game would be tested in target communities and data would be gathered on player demographics and interactions to build community health.

Games to generate data challenge
Concept
This proposal is for a game app that has the goal of improving individual health within
target communities, and ultimately, better community health. The purpose of this game
app is to create individual sense of locus of control. The second stage of the game would
include basic training on Internet use, like how to use search engines and browsers. The
third stage of the app game would be more advanced, teaching players how to search the
Internet for health matters. In this third stage, the game player would gain a sense of
which health-related websites might be considered trustworthy and useful and which to
avoid.
This app game would enhance access to health cares for individuals that lack resources,
whether time, finances, or another resource.
Results of my recent study show that use of health related websites improve health. By
playing this game, not only might players improve individual health, but also more
people might begin to play once they see positive results, and overall, community health
can improve. Read more about my study here: http://voices.yahoo.com/managing-health-

Software Description
• This proposal is for a multi platform game: a game that would work on the
desktop, laptop, tablet or smartphone.
• The game would be cross browser tested and compatible
• The game would be created using HTML5
• Game would be usable, entertaining, and engaging
Data Generation Description
Beta and field testing of game within target communities/states
Based on the game players zip code, game interaction would differ according to data of
location (using functionality like google maps api)
During the game playing, data would be gathered through a survey, through user
interaction, and other results, like interaction with primary care physician
Community Deployment Approach
• Promotion package would be developed
• Game would be promoted through word-of-mouth, social networking, affiliate
websites and other venues
2. • Devices to play/access games would be made available, like in library, kiosks,
stores and other public community locations
• Training and instruction generations for community leaders that want to use data
and build upon it
• Eventually, more data could be added, more populations could be targeted
