Creating new, annual events that bring community and vitality to our great region!
The Wilkes-Barre Twilight Criterium, September 4, 2009
The sport of cycling has erupted in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Healthy living is once again becoming a part
of our culture. What better way to embrace it than to align with these exciting, new annual events that
promote health and fitness in our region? This summer Facet Cycling has designed a cycling series to engage
Northeastern Pa. with now five high profile events. In 2009 we exposed downtown Wilkes-Barre and the City
of Nanticoke to the sport of cycling. The Wilkes-Barre Twilight Criterium has already blossomed from one
evening of wide eyed, high speed entertainment in to a weekend committed to Health and Fitness including
an array of activities for everyone. This Labor Day will likely produce the single largest influx of competitors
and consumers the city has ever seen. Nanticoke gave us a last minute opportunity in 2009 which generated
an international field including the New Zealand National Team. The team was kind enough to sign race t-
shirts for all the kids after the race. This year Nanticoke has seen fit to incorporate our second annual race in
to their second annual Fourth of July weekend celebration. Scranton has just committed to a downtown venue
running the start/finnish directly in front of the Steamtown Mall! South Abington is attracting the same
enthusiasm.
Many events such as these are held in out of the way locations and at off peak times with the intent not to
disturb or disrupt. We propose a different model. The goal of Facet Cyclings event promotion is twofold.
First, to create an event that will be embraced by the towns, one designed for spectators as well as participants,
generating addition commerce and creating a buzz that leaves everyone looking forward to next year. Second,
but equally important, is to maximize youth and family involvement. By placing the kids center stage at a high
profile venue, awarding them for their participation and presenting elite professional racing right before their
eyes we are giving them an experience of a lifetime. Something they may likely never forget.
This incredibly dynamic situation enables partnership opportunities that will expose sponsors to educated,
healthy, family oriented and generally forward thinking people. Please find enclosed a list of opportunities
for your business as well as information on our proposed schedule.

Last Minute Addition!
The Pocono Raceway will host
the spearhead event in the NEPA Bicycle Racing Series. The Pro-Am
races will be held on the East Road Course during the Pocono
Raceway Mothers Day Bike-a-thon. This venue offers the perfect
recipe for our kick off, a closed-to-traffic bike-a-thon for the whole
family, honoring mothers through charitys which are close to their
hearts and a Mothers Day brunch for those interested. Kids will
have an opportunity to try racing for the first time in our Youth
Development Race Series and witness the excitement of Pro-Am
racing first hand! To top it off, all of this happens on one of the
nations premier motorsport race tracks. Not many get the chance to
set foot on a race track like this. For those it will be a thrill of a
lifetime.

The Nardone Bros. Pizza Celebrity Challenge played an important role in the
W-B Twilight Races. We saw seven local celebrities and sponsors line up to represent their
charities of choice. Each donning a unique jersey displaying their name and their charity,
the celebrities raced head to head for a $500 donation toward the winners cause. Each
received a medal and a lunch-for-two gift certificate courtesy of Gus Gennetti.

What is a Criterium?
A Criterium is a spectator friendly style of bicycle racing specifically designed to maximize
sponsor exposure and completely captivating the masses. Criteriums utilize a short course,
approximately 1 mile in length, with many laps allowing the audience to watch the race unfold
before their eyes. Racers and teams use drafting, blocking, and team strategies to ensure their
victory much like NASCAR. Handlebar-to-handlebar, riders lean their ultra-light racing bikes
through the high speed corners and exit for all out intermediate sprints for cash called primes.
These races are sanctioned by the USA Cycling Federation, an affiliate of the US Olympic
Organization. Multiple categories are run throughout the day ranging from youth development to
elite races. These events are professional productions utilizing USAC licensed race officials, lead
vehicles, race announcers, wheel pits, banners, music, t-shirts, promotion bags and various
activities.
Working alongside the city we were able to
produce an event that would highlight all of
W-Bs finest attributes. We placed the
Start/Finish and kids activities on the brand
new River Common. A back straight sprint
line on S. Main in front of the restaurants
and cafes, who embraced the race w
sidewalk dining. Plus, we finished the
evening under the new city lights.
Revitalization and awareness at its best!

A final note:
Our valley is starving for activities and events like these. Here is a prime opportunity to
improve awareness for your company and to be a part of something new and great in our
region. Bikes are as American as apple pie. They are a part of our history and especially a
part of our youth. Be recognized for bringing our communities and families together for
some healthy clean fun!
Your promoter:
My name is Phil Cable. I founded Facet Cycling in 2009. I am a former professional cyclist
and Penn State graduate. Ive spent the past nine years in the high-line and exotic
automotive marketplace. I recently resigned as General Manager to follow my calling. I
believe God gives us our passions and talents and we are to use them for His glory. My
vision for Facet Cycling began with personal coaching, working with cyclists of all levels to
be their best. I also saw the need to get kids excited to be outside and active. I intend to
bring this amazing sport to Northeastern Pennsylvania like never before. This region has
had an epic explosion of cycling enthusiasm and is anxiously awaiting this summer race
series. I believe youth events mixed with elite racing is a perfect recipe for a good time by
all. I hope I have expressed the potential for partnering with us effectively and that at some
level you share my hopes and concerns for our region.
In addition, this year I am working with Cross Walk, a local outreach program, who works
in our housing authorities with kids and their families. Part of our goal will be to make sure
each child has a safe bike and helmet. As well as safety, we will be teaching them how to
maintain and repair their own bikes or if they have none, we will provide them a bicycle to
fix up and keep. Furthermore, we hope to allow each child the opportunity to participate in
at least one of our major events.
God bless,
Phil Cable
