The document provides instructions for completing NFIRS and EMS reports in the reporting system. It highlights that:
1) Reports are required for all dispatched calls regardless of response. Required fields are highlighted in yellow.
2) Narratives should be descriptive but avoid patient details for NFIRS. EMS narratives include patient information.
3) Various tabs like Basic, Units/Personnel, and Patients include response details, units, personnel, and patient information.

2. Notes:
- Reports are required any time a vehicle/company is dispatched, regardless if they actually
respond or not.
- Most required fields are highlighted in yellow. However, there are some fields that are not
highlighted, but still are required. Those will be addressed throughout this training.
- Always remember to double check your codes, even after you have chosen from drop down
menus, some codes automatically change after you choose them.
- Any red tab at the top means something on the page is incomplete.
- If you are attempting to complete a NFIRS for an EMS call and M251 has not yet cleared, some
info you enter prior to them clearing may be deleted. It may be best to wait until the medic
has cleared the call to start the NFIRS.
- Always obtain a minimum of a name, phone number, D.O.B. and address of anyone involved
in the incident.
- Calls involving MVCs, be sure the vehicle information is obtained. Vehicle make/model, year,
license plate etc.
