Whizz-Kidz has three main Facebook profiles: a main profile for engaging with supporters, a profile set up by a marathon coordinator to help with fundraising and volunteer coordination, and a profile for a specific campaign. They only have one Twitter profile to broadly discuss all their work and appeal to a wide range of people for different reasons like volunteering, campaigning or working for them. They use techniques like lists, direct messages and mentions to engage different groups for specific requests.
3. Why three Facebook pages? Our main Facebook profile allows us to engage with our 1,433 supporters and their friends; and has become as valid a space as our helpline for enquiries. Its also used as a peer to peer forum, with mums and dads and fundraisers and volunteers - supporting each other. Jess Whizz-Kidz was a profile set up by our Marathon Coordinator Jess Leigh to talk to as many of our runners as possible; help boost fundraising targets; coordinate meetings, pasta parties & training days. Its now being used as fertile recruitment ground for our Blue Peter Go Cardz Appeal volunteers Blue Peter Go Cardz also has its own Facebook page. Set up to help volunteers talk to each other, share photos, coordinate shifts in a safe space, and so that all of this activity appears in newsfeeds of those that like it and their friends newsfeeds.
5. Why just one Twitter profile? People follow & engage with us for many different reasons - and these reasons change. We talk broadly about all our work so as not to turn the profile into one feed that has limited appeal. Someone who has done an event may also be triggered to volunteer, campaign, or even work for us! I signpost to different spaces (e.g. Flickr, Youtube, Facebook, and our website pages); encourage questions, and listen and respond to them (like on Facebook). Ive created Twitter lists to identify fundraisers & volunteers, families weve helped, PCTs and NHS friends - so I know who to call upon when making specific asks and favours. I use DMs and @s to engage with different people and groups at different times, and for different reasons.
