The document outlines plans to design and build a concept amphibious vehicle that can carry two passengers on land and water. A team of four students will lead the project, with responsibilities including design, manufacturing, marketing, and operations. The vehicle will use a Honda engine and automatic transmission. Disc brakes and a steel chassis were selected. CAD modeling and financial analysis were conducted. The team created online presences to promote the project and seeks technical and financial support to commercialize the design.
2. AIM To design and fabricate a concept amphibious car IC engine driven carry two passengers comfortably
3. NEED AND BENEFITS Flood rescue operations Fishermans chariot (independent distribution) Personal travel (boon for rural areas) Tourist vehicle
4. THE TEAM ANAND MOHAN (in charge of) Manufacturing activities Product Design analysis Material selection and testing DURGESH SINGH (in charge of) Power transmission Steering system Drive assembly and installation GEETANAV OJHA (in charge of) Feasibility analysis Promotion and marketing Sequencing and scheduling油 SANJEEV GANGADHARAN (in charge of) Hull and float design analysis Analytical modelling and operations Chassis design
6. ENGINE TRANSMISSION Honda Street 100 engine 4 stroke engine with single cylinder Specifications : 97.2 cc, 6 bhp at 7500 rpm Automatic centrifugal clutch with four forward speed Provides a rear axle drive with the help of a chain and sprocket mechanism
8. STEERING SYSTEM Factors considered: vehicle weight, size, shape and driving conditions Steering which includes a Pitman arm with two tie rod ends 100% Ackerman mechanism with an Ackerman angle of 24 degrees Fixed turning radius as 3 meters, for which rod end travel was found as 0.127 meters
10. BRAKING SYSTEM Choices available: Rim brakes and disc brakes Rim brakes are cheap, light, mechanically simple, easy to maintain, and powerful, they perform poorly when the rims are wet Brake pads can wear down quickly, have to be replaced frequently and gets heated up Disc brakes are more powerful and require less maintenance. They provide a larger surface area for heat dissipation. Hence, we choose disc brakes.
11. WHEELS Specification for the tyres is 66 x 0.033 m Wheel base of 1.41 m and a wheel track of 1.27 m to provide better manoeuvrability and stability Material to be used for fabrication 1018 steel pipes to use as our material for the chassis Outer diameter of the pipes is 2.54 cm with a thickness of 0.178 cm Total weight of 8.41 kg Readily available and easily weld-able with arc welding
12. FE ANALYSIS OF CHASSIS A frontal impact of 3-G force and a side impact of 2-G force different designs of the frame considering different loads factor of safety of about 1.8
14. HULL DESIGN minimum volume of water to be displaced by hull came out to be 0.3cu.metres depth of the vehicle inside water is 0.5 metres the hull has been designed by taking this volume as 0.6cu.metres
15. PROPELLER Propeller is partly submerged in water and the axis of the propeller is parallel to the rear axis Propeller is fully submerged in water and the axis of the propeller is perpendicular to the rear axle. SEALANT Epoxies used as boat sealant costing about Rs.500-600 per litre Silicon sealant in the form of a spray costing about Rs.113/kg Hydrophobic rigid foam material
17. COST ANALYSIS Total estimated cost = Rs. 19,650 (approx.) Engine = Rs. 4000 Fasteners = Rs. 2000 Braking system = Rs. 2000 Wheels = Rs. 1500 Chassis = Rs. 1000 etc With appropriate financial support, the product and its features can be vastly enhanced to make it commercially viable.
19. Social Media We are running a blog ( www.kozamphicar.blogspot.com ) where we update all our work. We are there in most of the popular networking social sites like Orkut, Facebook (nitcAMPHICAR group) and Twitter. In the future, we intend to popularize our work both in the print and the electronic media.
20. Ranked in the top 15 technical institutes of the country. Tathva (starts 21 st October) is the second largest techno-management festival in South India after IIT-Madras. Ragam, the cultural festival is the largest in Kerala with performances by Shankar Mahadevan, Shaan, etc. A host of events and activities providing investors and groups/firms to promote their products and services throughout the year.
21. Platform (NIT-Calicut is one of the top-15 technical institutions) to display expertise and knowledge in the technical field. Visibility for individuals/groups who desire to make it big both in the technical and financial sectors. Team work ethics and coordination. For the investor If you are a technical expert and searching for that window to prove yourself in society, here you are. You can provide your technical expertise and we will promote you. If you are willing to support us financially, you will have the opportunity to promote yourself and your product/firm through us. You will not only get visibility but also potential customers both in and out of the institute.
22. Process the input and transform it into a physical model in congruence with our work. Promotion of the contributors thus providing them the required platform and opportunities. Channeling the expertise and reach of the contributors to other projects and related domains. Display of the product (amphicar) in various events and festivals of NIT Calicut and other institutes and thereby promote the contributors . Presenting a commercially viable design of the vehicle to the automobile industry for mass production. Promotion of our contributors (technical and financial) and their products/services in an inclusive manner.
23. Commercialization of our product. Mass social networking to bring the best R&D talents at virtually no cost. Collaboration for enhancing the product features to make it market ready. Promotion of contributors.
