Colombia has one of the highest rates of access to hemophilia prophylaxis treatment in the world, with over 90% of those with severe hemophilia receiving prophylaxis. This is higher coverage than reported in other countries like the UK, Canada, Venezuela and Argentina. Prophylaxis treatment can significantly reduce bleeding and joint disease for those with hemophilia and improve quality of life.

•People with hemophilia who receive regular prophylaxis have significantly fewer bleeds and a reduction in joint disease. •Prophylaxis can prevent or reduce the risk of intracranial hemorrhage. •Long-term benefits include reduced chronic pain, reduced need for orthopedic surgeries, hospitalizations, and emergency room visits. •All of the above leads to a better quality of life and greater participation (i.e. regular attendance) in educational, recreational and professional activities.
