This document provides training on noise awareness for workers at Muscat International Airport. It defines noise and identifies its hazards such as intensity, pitch, and duration. Prolonged exposure can lead to noise-induced hearing loss. How hearing loss occurs is explained through the process of sound waves entering and damaging the inner ear. Legislation establishes limits for worker noise exposure and control measures are mandated. Control measures discussed include equipment design, barriers, distance from noise sources, and limits on exposure time. Other measures covered are maintenance, temporary barricades, signage, hearing protection, health surveillance, and proper storage of protective equipment.

Inverse Square Relationship
19
As the intensity varies
inversely with the square of
the distance from the source.
So if the distance from the
source is doubled (increased
by a factor of 2), then the
intensity is quartered
(decreased by a factor of 4).

Scientific researches emphasized the fact that
noise and vibration, exceeding
certain intensity have negative consequences
for the safety and operational characteristics of
technical equipments as well as for the
safety and quality of the products.
In the same time, clinical researches
highlighted on statistical bases the fact that
noise and vibration exceeding certain limits
have negative medical effects by affecting the
health and working capacity of the
employees.
#7: Conductive hearing loss occurs when there is a problem conducting sound waves anywhere along the route through the outer ear tympanic membrane (eardrum), or middle ear (ossicles).
Presbycusis or age-related hearing loss, is the cumulative effect of aging on hearing.
Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) is a type of hearing loss in which the root cause lies in the vestibulocochlear nerve (cranial nerve VIII), the inner ear, or central processing centers of the brain
