The VI International Aquafilm Festival will take place from April 27-29, 2011 in St. Petersburg, Russia. The main theme is "Space and Ocean" and it will celebrate the 50th anniversaries of major events and films related to space and underwater exploration. The festival will feature the world's best underwater films and include competitions, screenings for children, and appearances by French underwater artists Andre Laban and Daniel Merceir. The goal of the Aquafilm Festival is to promote awareness of underwater life and environmental issues.

1. VI International festival «Aquafilm»
April, 27 -29, 2011 in St.-Petersburg the VI Parade of underwater films "Aquafilm" takes place. The main
theme of the festival is «Space and Ocean». The VI Parade of underwater films "Aquafilm" is dedicated
to:
the 50th anniversary of IOC (Intergovernmental oceanographic commission) of UNESCO,
the 50th anniversary of the 1st flight of man into the space,
the 50th anniversary of the legendary Russian underwarer film "Amphibia-man",
the 100th anniversary of Jacque-Ives Cousteau .
The program for the VI Parade of underwater films “Aquafilm” includes the world- best films about
water and the underwater world, with film-winners from different festivals: “World festival of
underwater images” (Marseilles, France) and others. «The Space Odyssey» will be presented with
unique material and images from space, provided by the Space Memorial museum (Moscow), the
Russian State Hydrometeorological University, the Russian Space Department and others.
The internationally-known French guests invited for the event to St.-Petersburg are :
Andre Laban – the underwater photographer, the aquanaut and the engineer of "Calypso" team,
underwater artist;
Daniel Merceir - the Founder and President of the World Festival of Underwater Images.

April 28th official celebration of the 50 anniversary of the “Amphibia-man (1961,) one of the world’s

During "Aquafilm" there will be a competition of short underwater video films, photos and children’s
pictures, as well as special screenings for schoolchildren and children from orphanages.
All events are free to public.
The Aquafilm festival has taken place since 2005 on a noncommercial basis with the purpose of the
popularization of underwater art to show the public the beauty and enigmas of the underwater world . It is aimed
to attract attention to the theme of an active way of life, problems of bionomics and the study of the world’s
ocean as well as to increase ecological awareness, the preservation of water resources and life on Earth.
During 2005-2010 in St.Petersburg more than 150 films from 17 countries were screened: among them
were 60 films from Russia , 20 films from Ukraine, 20 films from France. Also, there were the works of directors
and underwater photographers from Australia, Great Britain, Germany, Israel, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Canada,
Latvia, Macedonia, Turkey, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Estonia.
The Aquafilm Festival is a member of the European Association of festivals of underwater images (European
Underwater Images Festivals Association - EUIFA) and the partner of the World festival of underwater images (The
World Festival of Underwater Pictures). The Festival received informational support of IOC (Intergovernmental
