Obesity affects over 40% of the US
population. The effects of this are as
damaging as they are difficult to live with
– but many cases are manageable, if not
outright preventable.
The Body
Obesity’s major risk is its higher
likelihood of stroke. A stroke is where
thebraindoesnotreceiveenoughblood
flow, which limits the amount of oxygen
being supplied. This in turn causes cell
death. It is a hugely dangerous health
event, and obesity increases the risk
of stroke significantly. The best way to
proactively combat the risk of obesity
is by making smart lifestyle and diet
choices. Routine and preparing meals
in advanced can also prove invaluable.

The Mind
Obesity can often cause sleep apnea.
This is where, when lying down, excess
weight around the neck places enough
pressure on the windpipe to stop the
airflow. As carbon dioxide begins to
build in the blood, the body is woken
up. This cycle can repeat over ten
times a night, drastically reducing REM
sleep. Sleep deprivation has incredibly
harmful effects on the total body,
contributing significantly to issues
such as anxiety and depression. The
body and the mind are inextricably
linked; therefore, having a healthier
body will reduce the risk of obesity and
help to ensure a good night’s sleep is
possible.
