In 2008, some banks disappeared, including the Belgian bank Fortis. On September 26th, Fortis was said to have no solvency problems, but just a week later on October 5th, Fortis had to be rescued by the governments of Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. The document questions whether major oil companies could suddenly announce problems with their oil reserves, similar to how Fortis was said to be solvent before quickly needing to be bailed out.
