Omaha Nation
Just over an hour north of Omaha is Macy,
Nebraska, home of the Omaha Nation. The
reservation is a place with a very distinct and
rich cultural heritage. Residents of the
reservation are also faced with
Unique educational challenges.
The Experience
?   The Omaha Nation Culture Walk will take
    place in four sessions during the fall
    semester
First Meeting
? Meet  at UNO for an overview of
 statistics and information about the
 Omaha Nation
Second Meeting
? Travel
       to Omaha Nation to work with
 students in the Omaha Nation Public
 Schools
Third Meeting
? Meet to discuss culturally responsive
 teaching strategies, especially as
 they relate to the Omaha Nation
Fourth Meeting
? Meet virtually on the wikispace to
 reflect on learning and the impact of
 information gained through the
 Culture Walks.
The Benefits
?   Personal enrichment ¨C You can increase your
    understanding of your community.
?   Make connections¨C You can meet area teachers,
    community members and administrators.
?   Job preparation- You will be asked about personal
    experiences with diversity in every interview.
?   Prevent ¡®Culture Shock¡¯ - You will
    be better prepared for what you
    will experience when you begin
    teaching
