Organism Diversity in Ecosystems

Organisms diversify in an ecosystem by occupying different niches. An ecosystem can support many populations of different species because each population uses the ecosystem's resources in different ways. Populations are made up of the same species living in the same habitat. Multiple populations together make up the community of organisms in an ecosystem. Organisms avoid competition by occupying different niches defined by factors like habitat, food sources, behaviors, and activity times.
