In the beginning there was Free Software
                                                            and the statement was

Editor's Notes

  1. Maybe a bit murky. Sometimes confusing with the freeware/shareware concepts of the time. And we¡¯d all prefer free beer¡
  2. Has Open become so diluted that it has no real, dependable meaning? At the current rate, any company, community can claim to be open by simply using it as an adjective. And I¡¯m sure you can add your own examples.
  3. Sitting in keynotes at this years OSCON, I came to the conclusion that the term Open is meaningless. I also at that moment decided it didn¡¯t matter.
