This document provides a historical overview of the Tubberclare and Glasson area in Ireland. It describes early occupation dating back to the Stone Age, and the establishment of monasteries and churches in the area from the 6th century AD. The Normans arrived in the 12th century and built castles. Waterstown House was built on the site of one of the Dillon castles in the late 1600s. Oliver Goldsmith, the famous 18th century poet and novelist, was born nearby and drew from the local landscape in his writing.
